Albuquerque Church |
It was surprising to see various Catholic churches in Bohol. Big, small, simple, elaborate structures...they're practically everywhere. So, we took advantage of our van rental. Good thing our driver was patient enough for stop-overs.
We were able to cover four (4) out of...ummm...handful! Kami talaga 'yung sumuko! :p We were not able to go inside the church because most them are closed (except for Baclayaon and Dauis).
Albuquerque Church
Located alongside of the highway, the Albur Parish (locally known for Albuquerque) was established in 1869 after it was separated from Baclayon, Bohol. The towering formation on top is the church bell.

I had gooseflesh while exploring this part.

A some sort of bridge way connecting the church and a house. The latter could be probably be a convento. |
Another stunning church in Panglao, Bohol, Dauis Church is popular to locals as the Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Built by the Spanish missionaries back in 16th century, the church's design is inspired by Roman architecture. The church has gone thru several restorations.
Dauis Church is also known for its miraculous water which is said to possess healing powers.

Loboc Church
It is the second oldest church in Bohol. Originally built in 1602, Loboc Church has survived numerous floodings in the area.

Loboc Church |
Loboc Church also known as the Church of San Pedro, has a very colorful history. It says that it became a residence of Jesuits missionaries. Loboc became a famous pilgrim site because of the saintly priest Alonso de Humanes was buried in the church.
A hexagonal bell tower is stationed at a distance of the church. This tower is attributed to Fr. Aquilino Bon who built it. It's currently surrounded with market vendors and numerous tindahans.

Baclayon Church
One of the oldest churches in the country and one of the best preserved Jesuit build churches in the region. The church is Baroque influenced and is aesthetically stunning given it's age. I was amazed how each and every details of Baclayon Church were intricately preserved.
