Singapore: A Fountain of Dreams and Fancies

Luggage. Check.
Luggage organizers. Check.
Adorable DIY (Do It Yourself) luggage tags (I am so self-absorbed. ha-ha). Check.
Newly acquired camera sling bag. Check.
Singapore dollars (SGD) on hand. Check.

Great! All set. I've never been this ready. Hooo-hoh! Here I come, Singapura!
I honestly yearn to go to Singapore just for one reason - Universal Studios. So when Cebu Pacific declared piso fare last year, we immediately booked a flight.

Our short stay in "little red dot" was indeed laid back I must say. We didn't cram to go places or stressed ourselves taking pictures of everything we bumped into. This time we were tourists! (ha-ha)

Day 1

We arrived in Changi International Airport Terminal 2 at 9:30 AM. To make our two-full day stay budget friendly, we opted to take the train to get to Parc Sovereign Hotel, our accommodation for our overnight stay. Armed with a map, from Changi Terminal 2, we alighted at Bugis MRT Station and took a 10-minute walk to the hotel.

Rain was pouring when we arrived at Bugis station. Crap! Lesson learned: Always bring a raincoat or umbrella when traveling.

Bugis MRT Station

It was swift train ride from Changi International Airport Terminal 2 to Bugis MRT Station. Singapore trains are indeed efficient and strategic. All the while I thought taking the public transport would be hard for us since we carry our own luggage. I was wrong. Taking the train in Singapore is the cheapest mean to get to your destination. Nakamura ka na, on time ka pa :D

Bugis Village. Landmark going to our hotel.
Albert Square

Park Sovereign Hotel is located at Albert Street, at the back of Burlington Square (I hope my sense of direction is right at this time. Ha-ha). I was able to get a good discounted rate when I did our booking one month prior our trip. Almost 20 percent discount! Angal pa ba? :D

Service is outstanding at I love Parc Sovereign Hotel. It's very accessible to food spots and shopping areas. Kahit tiyangge!

We reached the hotel roughly about 1:00 PM. Parc Sovereign Hotel allowed us to check-in early. No charge. No hidden fees. Yey! (Check in time is at 3:00 PM). We rested for a while, took a quick meal and went to Universal Studios.

We had our lunch at Choo Chiang Roasted Meat Noodle House located at the food strip of Bencoolen Street, Burlington Square which is just steps away from our hotel.

Char Siew and Chicken with Rice - SGD4.00

Chicken Rice - SGD3.50
Green Veggies (I am guessing this is Chinese petsay) - P3.00

Chicken rice is the most beloved dish in Singapore. However, we failed to visit the famous Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice which gained awesome praises from one of my favorite travel culinary experts Anthony Bourdain. I enjoyed chicken rice in Kuala Lumpur because it's fragrant and tasty. But I was hoping to check out Tian Tian. Well, another reason to visit SG ;)

After appetizing lunch, we took the train to get to Universal Studios Sentosa!

From VivoCity, we took the Sentosa Boardwalk. I understand that this is the cheapest and "healthiest" way to get to Universal. It's a 15-20 minute walk.

You ready for the walk?

Lovely view while walking along.

My legs are ready! Lakad na.

Tripod is indeed your best friend and your enemy at the same time. Ha-ha.

Take the walkalator or walk with your feet he-he

We took the walkalator paminsan-minsan just to experience.

SGD1.00 entrance to the Sentosa Island

Purchased this at the ticket booth.
Entrance/Exit to Sentosa Island
You can also take the monorail to Sentosa Island as alternative.
Malapit na!
I can see the globe na.
Kilabot ng mga girlies. Ha-ha
Universal Studiooooooooooooos!

The entrance to Universal Studios. We booked our ticket online and printed it before our flight. We went to Universal on a weekday so queuing was never a problem all throughout the day. We got in very fast.

That feeling of becoming a kid again.

Minions!
Sesame Street Space Chase

So saan pa ba ako unang pupunta? Magpapaligoy-ligoy pa ba ako? Magpapakipot pa ako eh eto lang naman ang main purpose ng pagpunta ko dito? Ha-ha, Transformers The RIDE!

Optimus!
Are you an autobot or a decepticon?
Remember this? I saw in T2: The Revenge of the Fallen.

After our thrilling ride at Transformers, okay solb na ako. I could go back to the hotel and chillax. Ha-ha. Ask me if it's thrilling enough? It was. Bitin lang and somehow I thought it was overrated. Now, if you're the type who wants more than 3D simulation, Revenge of the The Mummy is for you!

Entrance to mummy

Bag is not allowed inside Revenge of the Mummy. We secured our personal effects in a locker  located at the left side of the entrance. It is free for the first 45 minutes.  It is electronically protected so you don't have to worry about loosing your variables.  Natuwa naman ako dito. He-he

So kumusta naman ang Revenge of the Mummy? Thrill seekers, eto 'yun! Basta!

By the way, the mummy is not for the weak heart. It's an indoor roller coaster ride so take caution ;p

With our favorite Po!

The major attraction Battlestar Galactica wasn't available for a year. Too sad. Does this mean, babalik talaga kami sa SG for this? ;p

Battlestar Galactica

Our tickets were included with free SGD5.00 merchandise and SGD10.00 meal vouchers. Such a treat! We used the SGD10.00 meal to eat at Mel's Burger and Fries which is located inside the Universal.

Hello free food!

We didn't spend a single dollar in buying water (water is pretty expensive in SG). There are water fountains everywhere. Our Bobble water bottle was our best friend for this matter. Sobrang laki ng natipid namin :)

Tired na?

After our exciting day in Universal, we went to Marina Bay to check out SG's finest cityscapes.

Following are Elbert's shots. I was lazy for photo ops. Tinamad na talaga ako sa pagod :D

Merlion Park

Esplanade
Marina Bay

For our dinner, we went to Makansutra Glutton's Bay situated right smack at Marina Bay. Makanstra is like a hawker's center filled with Singaporean specialties and other appetizing food. I had the chance to eat chili crab which is one of Singapore's special cuisines. How much? Have no idea. Libre lang ito. Ha-ha.

Chicken wings

Chili Crab

Mantou
pancit. dunno kung anong exact name. he-he
seafood broccoli

We wrapped up the day roughly at 11:00 PM. We  took the train and got back to our hotel before midnight.  (Note: Like KL, SG also adds additional fare for taxi after midnight. So if you're on a budget, ensure you're in the train before midnight strikes).

So what more can I say? PAGOD! :D

Day 2
Hotel check-out was at noon. Gees! 10:00 AM na kami nakagising and we need to pack out stuffs for our Kuala Lumpur flight at 9:30 PM. My sleep wasn't enough. I wanted to stay in bed but it would costs us a fortune for hotel stay.

We checked out at 12:00 nn and we lodged our stuffs at the luggage area of Parc Sovereign so we can roam around places without the hassle of bringing our baggage with us. I love it because it's free!

Enjoying my lunch. Infairview, malinamnam.

Fried Noodles SGD4.50

Mee Go Reng - SGD4.50

We had our lunch at Hot Spot Cafe Restaurant, again at Bencoolen Street, Burlington Square. We saw a lot of people in queue so we thought the food must be good. And yes it was indeed worth trying. Serving was massive (pero small serving daw 'yun). Ganun pala ang small sa kanila. Pang 2-3 tao. He-He

Here's my map guy. What do I do without you? lol

We walked around Little India and Serangon were we found interesting landmarks and stuffs. The weather was scorching hot. It was very uncomfortable and I could hardly bare the heat. Kaya wala, nag-ikot-ikot lang kami sandali. And then we went back to the hotel and kill time at the lobby. Phew!

Serangoon Street
Interesting structures along Serangoon
How colorful!
Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Serangoon
Getting some thirst quenchers. Ang init talaga.

At around 5:00 PM, we went to Tampines Terminal to see our friends and purchase Hello Kitty Collection at McDonalds (ha-ha). After sometime, we took the cab to go to Changi Aiport Terminal 1 for our Kuala Lumpur flight.

I wish to thank our friends Noel, Trix and Len for all the pag-aasikaso! :) We will be extending our stay next time :)
